Privacy Policy for Emei Video Player

Effective: April 28, 2026
Last Modified: April 28, 2026

Emei Video Player ("Emei", "we", "us", or "our") is a VR video player for Meta Quest devices. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, accesses, stores, and shares when you use Emei Video Player.

By using Emei Video Player, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect or Access

Google Analytics

Emei Video Player uses Google Analytics to understand app usage, improve playback reliability, and diagnose playback problems.

The app may send analytics events and properties such as:

  • A locally generated installation identifier used as the Google Analytics user ID.
  • Playback start, stop, completion, and error events.
  • Playback source type, such as local storage, USB, SMB, WebDAV, or HTTP.
  • User preferences, such as VR video format, panel curvature, environment mode and ambient lighting setting.
  • Playback duration, progress, completion percentage, playlist size, resume state, and error reason.
  • Video metadata, such as video dimensions and audio or video codec.

Analytics data is processed by Google according to Google's own privacy and data processing terms.

Meta Platform SDK Entitlement Check

Emei Video Player uses the Meta Platform SDK to initialize the app on Meta Quest devices and check whether the current Meta account is entitled to run the app.

The app requests entitlement status from Meta. We do not store your Meta account ID in our own database, and we do not operate a separate server that receives your Meta account information for this entitlement check. Meta may process information according to Meta's own platform and privacy policies.

Local Media, USB Storage, and Device Storage

To provide video playback and file browsing, the app may access media files and folders that you choose from:

  • Local headset storage.
  • Connected USB storage devices.
  • Network sources that you configure, such as SMB shares and WebDAV servers.

Media playback and decoding happen on your device. We do not upload your video files, subtitles, thumbnails, or folder contents to our own servers.

Network Storage Credentials

If you add an SMB or WebDAV server, the app may store the connection details needed to reconnect, such as host, port, share path, display name, username, domain, password, or bearer token.

Saved SMB and WebDAV secrets are encrypted on the device using Android Keystore-backed encryption. Temporary credentials may also be held in memory while the app is running. We do not receive or store your SMB or WebDAV credentials on our own or on any third party servers.

How We Use Analytics and Platform Information

We use analytics events and platform information described above to:

  • Confirm app entitlement.
  • Understand aggregate usage patterns.
  • Improve app stability, playback reliability, performance, and media compatibility.
  • Diagnose technical problems.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share or make information available in the following limited cases:

  • Google Analytics receives analytics events and properties described in this policy.
  • Meta receives information necessary for Meta Platform SDK initialization and entitlement checks.
  • We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of users, the app, or others.

Storage and Retention

Analytics data is retained by Google according to Google Analytics settings and Google's policies. Meta Platform SDK data is handled by Meta according to Meta's policies.

If you contact us for support, we keep the information you voluntarily provide only as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your request, maintain records of the issue, or comply with legal obligations.

Data Deletion Requests

You may request deletion of user data that we have collected or stored by contacting us using the contact information below.

To help us locate analytics data, include the locally generated analytics installation identifier shown in the app's About screen. If you cannot provide this identifier, we may be unable to locate analytics records that relate to your app installation because we do not store your name, email address, or Meta account ID with Google Analytics events.

You can delete app-managed local data from your device by clearing the app's storage through Android system settings or uninstalling the app. You can remove saved SMB or WebDAV connections in the app.

Your Choices

You can:

  • Choose which local files, USB drives, SMB shares, or WebDAV servers you access through the app.
  • Remove saved SMB or WebDAV connections in the app where supported.
  • Clear local app storage through Android system settings.
  • Uninstall the app to remove app-managed local data from your device.
  • Manage Meta account and platform privacy settings through Meta's account and device settings.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards for data stored by the app, including the credential protections described above. However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and you are responsible for controlling access to your headset, Meta account, local files, USB drives, and network storage accounts.

Children's Privacy

Emei Video Player is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Third-Party Services

This Privacy Policy does not govern third-party services, platforms, or servers that you use with the app, including Meta, Google, SMB servers, WebDAV servers, HTTP or HTTPS media servers, or other network storage providers. Those services are governed by their own privacy policies and settings.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Modified" date above. Your continued use of Emei Video Player after an update means you accept the updated policy.
